Dane Cook's SNL monologue was the greatest opening in recent memory. Overlong and risqué enough to wonder if he'd gone rogue, but well worth it. Ever since Martin Lawrence caused comedian-hosted shows to suck so, so horribly by causing the 'Answering Questions from the Audience' trend, I haven't been too keen on catching the "It's great to be hosting Saturday Night Live ... (Band/artist name) is here! We'll be right back!" past the cold open.
Too often they have people who can sing (Kevin Spacey) who go along with a perverse prediliction towards choreographed performances.
The drama club announcements skit was a good concept in theory. Again, very talented people but mostly talented at making me hate them.
The Taco Town commercial never gets old. I love guacamolito sauce.
The Long Ride Home: The Jay Feely Story was a great concept. "I thought wind helped!" "Why did I have to tell those guys I have a pilot's license?" Nice special effects at the end. Really top-notch.
The 100% wool sweater skit was also a good concept. I'm not sure why this show is so much more original than all the other this season. "I feel like I'm being raped by a Wookie."
SNL Digital Short - "Through good times and bad -- Lettuce"
Oh crap, I've seen this Target sketch before. I'm fine that they chose to replace what is clearly depicted as Wal-Mart with Target branding but when they repeat a gag because they can't figure out anything funny for ten minutes it gets amazingly not funny. Bill Heder is really good in a horrible sketch.
James Blunt is surprising popular among the college crowd.
